Mapping Mental Health Awareness Training for prison staff in England
August 2008
- gathering information about training packages and approaches in use for mental health awareness training of prison staff; content and delivery methods, main target audiences, who delivers the training, evaluation of training.
Mary was engaged to provide a mapping of the availability and provision of mental health awareness training for prison staff. She worked to a concise timeframe and followed her brief with accuracy and rigour. The resulting output was of an exceedingly high standard and has informed the development of a critical aspect of service with the potential to make a positive difference to offender mental health.
Mental health improvement: evidence based messages to promote mental wellbeing (one of four contributors to the research)
Mary carried out an evaluation of the response of BT employees to the first workplace ‘positive steps’ campaign, making a significant contribution to our understanding of employee perceptions of mental health promotion messages. She also contributed an analysis of the grey literature of evaluations of the World Mental Health Day campaigns run by the Health Education Authority during the 1990s, providing a vivid picture of beliefs about mental health of people of all ages, across different socio-economic groups and minority ethnic communities.
Mary was an invaluable part of the research team pulling together this review and her specific contribution was extremely well received by the client and by colleagues in the field.
